There were many pre awards festivities. Here at the swanky party at Trump Towers ( l. to r.) the brilliant writer, star, and director of Songs of an Unmade Bed. Mark Stephen Campbell, Michael Wintour (rival nominee), and David Schweizer (also my Los Big Names director.) Making a booty call, Mr. S. ?

My friend Bradford Louryk won “Unique Theatrical Experience” later that night for his Christine Jorgenson receation. Much deserved. I’d give him an award just for his outfit.

Another rival nominee Judy Gold nominated for “25 Questions for a Jewish Mother” giving me some sugar at Trump Towers.

Here’s the adorable Los Big Names publicist Peter Cromarty. His skin was smooth with a hint of English leather.

When you get too liquored up at Trumps to hail a cab- take a double decker sightseeing bus to your awards.

That’s right! It’s DKNY for this DYKE.

The awards took place at the fancy auditiorium at the high school of performing arts. There was not a lot of red carpet. It was more like remnant. But Mark and Michael worked it like Destiny’s Child.

I had a better camera than these sorry paparazzi.

There was a media frenzy. I lost track of who was who, but I believe this was Lisa Gibbons from Access Hollywood. Nice lady.

This is Rick McKay the creator of the Documentary ” Broadway: THe Golden Age” Anybody in theater or who loves theater needs to get their hands on this DVD. Google it. Me and Rick go way back- not to the golden age because I’m only 31 and just begun. That’s what I told Idina.

Looking fly are Jamie Cesa and Eva Price part of our production team. Two people I would have thanked in my poignant and hilarious acceptance speech if God had only given me a chance.

I sat with the big man Los Big Names producer Jonathan Reinis and gave him my respect. that’s his fabulous wife Hillary. Hillary a name we’ll hear more of in 2008.

No matter if you win or lose the best part is a free pizza and beer afterparty. John’s Pizzeria in Time Square was mobbed. And that’s when I saw her:

Sunday night is the Drama Desk Awards here in NY and I plan to work it babies. I want my award or free drinks or something- Today I bought a digital camera with my Off- Broadway earnings to snap the luminaries above, any red carpet action, and the priceless expressions of the losers.

BUT now that our NYC run is over I can tell you what I really think.

Honestly I have a little post partum unemployment blues but I’ll bounce back. Sunday night, May 14th the closing show was not easy. A dreaded acquaintence sat in the front row. Though he means well, he is known among us peformers as the SHOW DOOMER for his heckling, shrieking ahead of punchlines and yelling out shit like he’s in the show.

Now I love and adore the sound of human laughter but this fellow creates a constant earpiercing, grating mix of prehistoric-creature hysteria, and car alarm which weirds out the audience, and kills the vibe to the point that this guy is all you hear besides me. And sometimes you just hear him. I tried to squelch him with a joke or with a glare. But he was unstoppable in his delusion that his squawking was helping the show or people liked him. Folks if you are ever sitting next to someone like this who is distracting you from the show you paid to see why not roll your program into a tube and jam it down his gullet- so he can still breathe while sufficiently muffled. I’d have done it myself but couldn’t reach him.

Anyways I must admit somehow people in attendance had a good time sent me sweet emails and showed up at my dressing room. I said hello to many good folks in the narow hallway of my disheveled dressing room. One slight gaffe- I tripped and fell against a woman cupping her breasts acccidentally for balance. Sometimes Vertigo works in my favor.

Saturday before closing was a much better day. Our crew arranged a potluck at a park near by. Here is my crew- the ladies and dudes who made this engagement a wonderful family experience.

And now the report on today’s two shows-
Sat. Matinee good attendance good crowd AT FIRST. But then some of them began to experience restless leg syndrome, active bladders, or just the need to roam up and down the center aisle as I tried to tell my little story and visualize the places I remembered while a lady rattled and rattled her plastic conways bag for no apparent reason.
But that’s what matinees are for, to strengthen a girls mettle for the big Saturday night crowd which we had. Two of my favorite performers were in the house tonight- Tanya from Wau Wau sisters and the internationally renkowned classical guitarist and good looking living legend Sharon Isben. Hot show. Almost every gag in the script got the maximum response and Queen Latifah had one of her most dramatic death scenes.

In between shows today, me and the crew had a charming potluck in a nearby park- Scott made sloppy joes, Hunter made North Carolina deviled eggs from his Mama’s recipe, Joanna made cole slaw, I brought salad, and Tony brought very cute cups and soda. I was hoping to add a picture I took of this exciting event but– you’ll have to wait till the next entry- Rite Aid has my film.

Dear Mr Reinis my esteemed producer,
If you are reading this please note that I really did keep my blog going all through the 6 week engagement. You thought I’d flake out like a blog dilettante, fooled ya!

Friends, I’m nominated for two prestigous theater awards (as the world knows) for “Outstanding Solo Performance.” I could win or lose both but I have no doubt that if there was an award for “Outstanding Blog by an Off-Broadway Performer, the trophy would be mine. Sure my grammar and spelling ain’t perfect but look at this picture taken on the corner of 47th and 8th avenue. I was complaining to Jamie, our saintly general manager about something, and perhaps hurling some envious epithets at Julia Roberts when this actual uniformed Times Square peacekeeper asked me for an autograph. I signed the back of a summmons for him. He hadn’t seen the show, like many unfortunate New Yorkers, but he recognized me from the marquee and thanked me for the good I was doing for the people of NY. He said I was making a difference to people like him. And all I had was my cameraphone but I know my stories invite skepticism. Well believe this one and I hope that all of you New Yorkers squeeze your butts in to the remaining 5 shows. Maybe you’ll get a little parting gift.

I have been getting so much love for Los Big Names, want even more, but am willing to share it. Because this has been a team labor of love, from the Producer to the hotties backstage and in the booth. Today I must highlight my director who has taught me so much about storytelling, audiences, spectacle, and who I have tried to teach about text messaging and I-Pods. We have worked on 4 shows since 2001 and when I perform Los Big Names- He is with me every night although physically he is in Baltimore thrilling others. Here’s a picture of us wasted after a 10 hour tech rehersal outside of the 47th st. theater back in March — I love you David Schweizer, thanks darling.

I happened to meet the New Yorker critic who wanted me to know that he does enjoy coffee and comparing me to an overcaffeinated animatron- was a compliment. That works for me!

Fabulous day. I went to the super modern offices of Sirius.com and was interviewed by the legendary queer activist Michelangelo Signoreli. He saw the show Sat. and was so into it and had the best questions. My new dream is to get a show on Sirius radio it’s so much better than tv- They could use a Latina Lesbian bon vivant like me.

Then I met my - sit down people- highschool boyfriend David and his wife Sally for coffee at THE EVIL COFFFEE conglomerate- before the show. And Sally and I had much fun picking on our man. Last night’s show was one of the best of the 6 weeks with a surprise standing O.
I had given up on ever getting a standing ovations till I’m very old and busted up, incoherent and wheeled out for a lifetime achievement GLAAD award presented by some crap actress on the next lame network show with superficial homo characters. But tonight they all jumped up at the end- from the balcony to the orchestra, stood, cheered and applauded for two bows and me fit as a fiddle, not bad looking, with all my teeth, and enjoying this more than having a baby.
And when I left the theater there was a squad of soldier dudes and one soldier lady in camoflouge all from Fort Dix- They’d all come back from Iraq and this was one of their social nights for morale. Soldiers went to see Marga Gomez. I felt like Suzanne Summers- Hopefully they’ll send me some pictures of us that I can post here in the blog soon.

Because Sunday it’s over. Whoah again. There’s always this point, ten minutes before the end of the performance when I think -that went by so fast- And when I hit that mark for the remaining 6 shows it’s going to seem even faster- But that’s why theater is so precious-It’s about stealing moments that will never return — SO seize my show now. Speaking of oversharing– I farted on stage two nights ago but it was just audible to me. I know because I asked certain people after the show if they had heard anything unusual. It was a first and I hope a last. I’ll be taking beano till sunday just for insurance.
