Hello. I have returned to my special place the Los Big Names blog after two weeks away. You may have imagined me being occupied playing quarters with Julia Roberts, Oprah and David Blaine at Joe Allen’s. But I’ve been chilling, doing the 8 shows a week, receiving two award nominations for OUTSTANDING SOLO PERFORMANCE from Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award. There haved been more promotional events, a special El Diario Newspaper night with Latino VIPS and a special presentation for me from the best Latino paper in el mundo I was also interviewed by migente.com which should appear on their site soon. I also acquired an addiction to myspace.com.
But the most dramatic event was a 3 day attack of Vertigo that sent me to the emergency room in an ambulance for my first hospital overnight stay . But it happened on Tues. my one day off, so I was back on stage Wed night, medicated, holding on to the few pieces of scenery for balance whenever I felt like keeling over. And it realy was one of my best shows ever.
Vertigo has always reminded me of Kim Novack (who is referenced in Los Big Names) It always sounded a little glamorous but no, no it’s more than a swoon. It’s hellish but I think it’s given me the beginning of a six pack from alll the heaves. Yes this blog has TMI.
Imagine Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, the boulevard of the tragically hip. Now imagine me being carried by paramadics down the street to the far away ambulance in some sort of beach chair contraption. It was very AARP meets MTV. Thank God that my beloved friends Earl Dax and Anastasia had rushed to my apt beforehand and got me out of my pajamas and into something more sporty. I wish they had put a trucker hat on me that would have been cute. I’m writing this between Sunday shows in this amazing cement plaza near the theater with free wireless. Free wireless and the Star Spangled Banner in Spanish would make life complete. Now I must head back to the theater for the 7 pm show and only slightly unbalanced. After tonight we go into THE FINAL WEEK OF LOS BIG NAMES.

Marga, I’m sure you get this every day, but the simple truth is that you invade my soul. You probably don’t remember me, but not only have we met before, you left me a telephone message that I accidentally deleted. It was the best message I have ever gotten. So, if you still have my number maybe you could call and leave me another one.
PS: I caught your show on Saturday night and although it was great I was overlooked while you were handing out your headshots. Perhaps you could do something to rectify what must have been a glaring oversight on your part.

Hi.
I’m not usually one to get all teary and moved — okay, I am — but your show broadsided me in ways not felt since my excruciating (albeit deliberate) encounter with too much nutmeg back in college. (We’d heard “efficiently hallucinogenic” but didn’t connect dots to “therefore, highly toxic.” ‘Someone say TMI?]
Of course, no comparison beong made of Los Big Names & nutmeg! Your show — heck, even the JELLYfish — had me moved to pieces, laughing in stitches, awed, entranced… Whereas the nutmeg side effects are more like vertigo (big, big drag — really sorry to hear of your ordeal).
and for the rather unfortunate and confusing metaphor, above! (so, like … stitches… awe?–how does that work?!?)
Seriously, though, I had a blast.
‘Really appreciate the discount tix.
[btw: re vertigo , I’m not sure about this, but I recall some talk in my profession’s NY Regional guild (oooh) about vertigo. (I’m a Feldenkrais practitioner : something like Alexander but with sisterly spats built into philosophies of techniques)
Don’t deal with this now, obviously, but drop me a line if of interest to you, & I’ll look into it]
p.s. I’d have to agree that Melissa really does need a picture. (She and I have never met, but sometimes women just know!)

Okay Everybody - I’ll get Melissa the picture. Email your adress to me where it says contact Marga and I will do it. I’m bad at mailing things but I will do this. And everybody take it easy with the nutmeg!
Peas,
marga
